Recently, I visited with a new client about her work and the groups she interacts with on a regular basis. As she described some of the challenges and interpersonal dynamics, she paused, leaned back in her chair and said, “it’s the green-eyed monster.” Every time. That’s what was getting in the way.

I think we all know about the green-eyed monster. It’s that voice telling us we want what that person has or how this person is living. It’s jealous and envy in their finest moments and it can often create feelings of not being good enough, not having enough, or always wanting something else. I don’t know about you, but this shade of monster isn’t serving me and it doesn’t serve anyone else either.

There is a big stake here. That stake is each one of us living our passion, our purpose, our brilliance. The stake is the gifts we each bring to the world. When we are so focused on someone else, we completely lose sight of who we are and what we are contributing to the world.

Friends, it’s time to send that green-eyed monster to the exit door of our lives. The more we entertain that monster, the more we lose ourselves and the more misery and discontent we have in our lives. This also keeps us from living completely and fully in the moment. Why would we want to give our energy and precious time to this monster?

I’m inviting you to EMBRACE all your brilliance. Let’s talk a PAUSE and remind ourselves how amazing we really are. Notice the impact of the pause. I’ve realized that the more I take the pause and lean into my brilliance, the less I see the green-eyed monster showing up.

P—Purpose. You have something that is individual and unique to YOU. This is your call, your mission, your “why” of being on this Earth. No one else has the exact same call. Embrace it, step into it. Focus on the purpose. When you are focused on YOUR purpose, there isn’t room for that green-eyed monster.

A — Awareness & Acceptance. You may not have the same gifts and skills as the person next to you. That is absolutely how it’s supposed to be! When we embrace our skills and talents while bringing them forth into the world, not only do we light up, the world lights up, too. A little acceptance may be in order.

U — You are uniquely YOU. There is no one else like you. Interestingly enough, there is probably someone out there jealous of you. Take that in for a moment. The thing that you have is what someone else wants. Why not capture your uniqueness and encourage someone else to capture their uniqueness?

S — See and Savor the beauty of YOU. Write down one thing you see in yourself that is amazing. If you struggle with this, ask a friend. He or she will tell you what is amazing about you. Savor this. 

E — Embrace all of you. No one is perfect. It’s all used in the world — the good, bad and ugly. This is what makes us a human being. Embracing ourselves also provides permission for others to embrace themselves.
