The last few weeks of life have been nothing short of a flurry. Two plane trips, multiple piano gigs, keynote speaking, workshops and more. Mind you, I love it all and wouldn’t change it, but as I was getting off one of the latest flights, I heard myself thinking, I need to get back in charge of my life.
Coincidentally, the next morning I spoke with a dear friend who was working on some weight management strategies. I heard her say, “I need to get back in charge of my weight.” Hmmm. Notice a theme here?
The reality for most of us is that it’s easy to get off track and feel like we are no longer “in charge” of our lives. We could probably acknowledge the C word here (that’s “control,” if you aren’t familiar with this C word…) And yet, perhaps being “in charge” in this context is a little different than control.
What if being back in charge was really about empowering ourselves?
Control is about power and control. In our context throughout this blog, I believe that we are talking about something different. There is something we’ve lost sight of—a path, our well-being, ourselves and probably a list of other things. We simply want to empower who we are and where we are going in the world.
I put together some key concepts around CHARGE to share with you and I hope they are useful in helping get yourself back in charge and empowered in life.
C—Connection to self. When we connect back to who we are, what is important, and that sense of “knowing,” we empower the human being.
H—Humor. It may sound funny (pun intended) but humor helps bring clarity to situations, lightens the mood, supports neuroplasticity, and provides a new framework for understanding ourselves.
A—Appreciation. It’s important to appreciate who we are and the gifts we bring to the world. Acknowledging these gifts and empowering ourselves with these gifts makes impact.
R—Rest & Rejuvenate. Sometimes we need to regroup and take time to rest to get back to the empowerment place. Rest is not necessarily sleep (although it can be). Rest is the things we do to rejuvenate. A walk in nature, listening to music, meditation, prayer and so many other great things can help us rest, which ultimately helps us rejuvenate.
G—Gratitude. Gratitude reminds us of all the things we can appreciate and be thankful for in our lives. It also builds our empowerment.
E—Empower. We have the choice to empower ourselves. I believe it is key to putting ourselves back in charge.
As you get yourself back in charge, I invite you to notice this place of empowerment. What becomes possible when you are empowered? What are the ways this connects to your fulfillment and overall view of life? I believe we often underestimate the superpower of empowerment. Let’s activate this superpower!
